Principle:              We can choose to think about anything we want.

Title:                      Make maps.

Materials:             Level 1.      Simple map drawn with generic buildings and areas drawn for children to label and color.

Level 2.      Simple map drawn, with streets only, children can draw in buildings, parks, etc.

Level 3.      Plain paper and crayons, pencils or markers.

Direction:             Review today's principle. Introduce today's activity by stating that children will draw maps.  They can include anything that they want on their maps.

Model:                    Make a map to model the activity.  Use self-talk and model reflective thinking to generate novel ideas for your map.

Introduce activity and demonstrate designing a creative map.

Activity:                 As the children work encourage them to come up with novel ideas.  Emphasize to the children that they can think of anything that they want.  Help the students to evaluate their maps, and their processes.

Have children make up their own novel maps.

Evaluation:            Level 1.         What is this?
                      What did we just do?
Level 2.         How did you do that?
Level 3.         What will you do different next time?
                      What will you do the same next time?
                      Why?

Assist children in evaluating this activity and their strategies.
