      Level 3.      The older we get the more choices we have.

Rationale:

It builds a feeling of competence to think about how much the children have learned since they were babies.  They also can anticipate that their choices will increase.

Introduction:        Review the unit and introduce the Daily Principle.

Introduce principle.

Activity:                 Tell students that you have a friend with a baby, and this baby knows how to play pat-a-cake when his mommy sings the song and also likes a couple of other songs.  On one side of the paper write BABY.  Under BABY list pat-a-cake and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and Hush Little Baby.  On the other side of the paper write Preschoolers (or any word to designate your students).  Allow the students to generate a list of the songs that they know.

Make a list of songs babies might know and then have children list ones they know.

Summary:             Compare the two columns.  Emphasize that the older they get the more they know and the more they can choose from.

Compare lists and emphasize the larger number of choices the older children have.
