Principle:              We learn new things.

Title:                      New activity.

Materials:             Novel materials:

Level 1, 2, 3.    Magnetic shapes, letters, numbers or new art supplies, or new game

Direction:             Review today's principle. Introduce today's activity by stating that children will be able to try something new.  Present the new materials (or familiar materials to be used in a new way) and discuss what might be done with the materials.

Review principle.

Model:                    Model the task emphasizing the strategies that are needed to work with the new materials

Demonstrate the process of approaching, and working with, new materials.

Activity:                 Point out the strategies used but especially emphasize the fact that the children are trying new activities.  Help the students evaluate their own process.

Help children evaluate the effective new strategies they learn.

Evaluation:            Level 1.         What is this?
                      What did we just do?
Level 2.         How did you do that?
Level 3.         What will you do different next time?
                      What will you do the same next time?
                      Why?

Assist children in evaluating this activity and their strategies.

Summary:            

Summarize activity and provide rationale.
