Activity: Tell the students that today you are going to sing a familiar song, If You're Happy And You Know It. But first you want to talk about different ways to feel and different ways to show it. Begin with happy. Help children to name many different ways to show you are happy. Help children to choose one of these ways to sing about or sing a different verse for each of the different ways you can show that you are happy. For example, you might sing, "If you're happy and you know it you can sing"; or, "If you're happy and you know it do a dance." Ask students what other ways they feel (sad, mad...) and help them to think of many different ways to show those feelings. Sing the song using the different emotions and the different ways of showing the emotions. For example, "If you're sad and you know it you can cry, boohoo." or if you're frustrated and you know it stomp your foot." |
Discuss feelings and how they are communicated. Have children sing about various emotions. |
|
Variation: Read a book that deals with the issues of acting out your emotions. Emphasize the choices that we have. |
