Implementation grants available now

Doing What Works has just released a Request for Proposals for Implementation Awards. These awards will range from $15,000 to $55,000 and will fund the implementation of research-based practices in preschool programs. The grant applications are due February 24, 2012.

One of the topics that will be supported through the awards is Preschool Language and Literacy. The Doing What Works website has detailed information about the two specific Early Childhood  practices that these grants will support.

  •        Interactive and dialogic reading strategies
  •        Phonological awareness.

If you are planning to apply for a Doing What Works in Action award, consider building Language is the Key into your application. Language is the Key is an evidence-based program that shows parents and teachers how to use interactive and dialogic reading strategies. And since Language is the Key is available in six languages, it’s easier to reach out to families who are just learning English. Families who are learning English can use the interactive reading strategies to strengthen the child’s heritage language at home and enhance literacy development later on in school.

You can supplement Langauge is the Key with our free parent-child literacy activities. These activities focus on 1) language development, 2) phonological awareness, and 3) general print awareness.
